Picking and Grinning

It has been ages since I last posted! Here are some sketches from a great party last Friday over at my friend Evans studio. David Garza, Dan Dyer, Darden Smith, Gary Richardson, Evan Voyles (among others) were hitting all the right notes. I was sketching with pencil on paper (was trying to keep a low profile). I may work a couple of these up larger on the iPad with some color.

Wow. I had some problems with rapidweaver (the app I use for my website) and just got them sorted out. It is possible it was five months ago? Time really does fly. I will try to add in the drawings that I have done since then. In the meantime below is a one of several drawings I did of my cowboy hat last month.

This was inspired by a really lovely illustration I saw on face book of an astronaut with the earth hovering between the his (or her) hands.
Watercolor Test 111313
I was playing with the app ArtRage yesterday and went back to try their watercolor brush. The latest app update has this tool working better.
Mason 110713
Work has been pretty intense for the last month but I think I can really get back to painting again. I would like to start a new series of paintings… thus far I am grabbing my iPad and painting whatever, however. So now the search for a new series to do, which leads to this post. Maybe doing portraits that are stripped down to minimal elements and limited color.

Gloria Sleeping
This is really only the beginning of a drawing but I was trying to capture some of the light coming in on Gloria while she slept this morning. She is so beautiful...

I was hanging out waiting for Sam to finish his violin lesson and started drawing some cars in the parking lot. I used to do this a lot.

Five Ball in a Bag
I have been having a hard time getting around to drawing and painting this week. So I dabbed this out while eating lunch. Liked the colors of the balls in the light… used my Sensu Brush with ArtRage for iPhone.

Rain Approaching on Canandaigua Lake
I found this from my trip to Canandaigua, NY. I painted it while sitting in the back of a boat while rain approached. The sky was changing from blue to gray. See the buoy in the lower right?

We been have been having a lot of great tomatoes at our house. They always look so beautiful on our kitchen counter.
Sam Plays Civ V
The kid needed some game-time before heading back to his CIT duties at Camp Halfblood. So he had some quality time with Civ V. Both boys have told me I need to get my empire building cap back on and try this version.
Sketching at the Long Center
My friend Byron and I walked over to the Long Center and did some urban sketching. Our skyline in Austin keeps changing… a friendly pigeon kept us company and became a good subject.
French Countryside
I bet you noticed. This is photo that have manipulated with my new fav photo editor app, Repix. This is app is awesome! Mason sent some photos from his trip over in France and so I was playing with them. Can’t wait to see the bugger back here at home.
Lewis on the Windowsill
The big guy barely fits on the little windowsill but that is just how he likes it. And two stories up he gets to look down on the neighbors dogs.
Sam. A Study in "Dad Go Away"
I was playing with a new app, repix, that a customer had recommended. It is a blast to use. I grabbed this recent photo of Sam on his first day of work at the gym, he was throwing up the, “Dad go away” hand.

Here is another painting of tomatoes from our kitchen window sill. Something about veggies in the kitchen. It is comforting.
Yellow Stool
Sitting in the living room. Not feeling so much like drawing but wanted to non the less, if that makes any sense. The is the stool that the whole family uses when practicing (not all at the same time of course).
Rick (another one of my buddy)
I have been trying to get a portrait of my buddy Rick that I am satisfied with, this one is getting somewhere...
'maters on Windowsill
A couple of heirloom tomatoes hanging out on thew windowsill waiting for dinner. Drawn while hanging out with my lovely wife in the kitchen. Makes me happy.
A Critter Dog
This is some sort of critter dog that is slobbering. I think it is sad. Maybe a little kitty snack got away. Poor doggie.
